Here you come a-knocking, knocking on my door; I've never met a girl like you before

Photo: By me

I've decided to dedicate this month to blogging about the amazing city I will soon be leaving.

It's the Month of Melbourne.
I have lived in eleven houses, in five towns, in three countries; Melbourne is without a doubt the best place I have ever lived; the Gold Coast is without a doubt the worst. New Zealand had its fair share of cons, but could never live up to the horror of the GC. Norfolk, England had its pros, but could never, ever, top Melbourne. I lived in New Zealand and on the Gold Coast for longer, but when people ask me where I'm from when I'm in Spain, I'll say Melbourne. I've only lived here for four years but it feels like home. Anyway, I'm going to post this now, before it gets too sentimental and I cry and decide that I don't want to move to Europe anymore. Blame the PMS, always blame it.

So, I wrote that this morning before work. Now I'm home from work and have had such a crap afternoon that I feel like complaining about Melbourne. Of course my tram line has to have some kind of problem which leaves me standing in the rain for almost an hour, freezing cold and tired. It took me two hours to get home from work. I spent longer getting to and from work today than I did actually making money. I hate you Melbourne. No...no, it's not true. I love you, I do.

  1. Awww. *hugs*

& there ends the sentimental crap.

I was in Melbourne for a week. I love it more than Perth & will eventually settle there. I think.

Spain will be fantastic & you'll come home & wish you were there... at least for a little while.

  2. Thanks hun! You should move to Melbourne, I tell everyone they should. If you come to Melbourne and think it's better than where you live, it means the city wants you. Give the city what it wants. Oh, and..I'm moving to Spain indefinitely so I don't know whether I will be 'home' in Melbourne again.

  3. WOW. you've lived in so many places.
was the GC that terrible? please expand on how bad it was.

i'm sure when you get to spain you'll be too busy to even think about melbs.

when i was on the train on friday, i was also having a sentimental moment with the city. watch out for it on my blog...

connex makes me want to kill myself. actually, connex makes me want to kill connex painfully and slowly with a pick axe.

  4. The Gold Coast...well, I did my five years of High School there and as a result don't think kindly of the place. It's a great holiday destination, but it doesn't go much deeper than that.

There isn't the creativity or individualism of Melbourne. There aren't funky areas like Fitzroy/Brunswick. There are limited things to do, mostly just going to the beach and one of the very few clubs.

Everyone dresses the same, and if you don't, well, it's best to be a bimbo slut clone unless you'd like to be alienated. If you love beach culture then it's not such a bad place, but I just don't..I like a bit of..other culture. I could go on and on and on about why I hate the coast, but maybe I should pin point that I lived near Surfers Paradise which is the most fake and touristy area, other places I can't judge.

...sometimes I hate connex too, but then I remember that on the gold coast there is only one train line..to Brisbane..plus no trams, and only very crappy buses. So I appreciate Melbourne public transport a little more.
